Our panel discussion got cut a little short during the Woman Within Conference, and as I reflected on what we didn't get a chance to cover, I felt it was important to create space to dig a little deeper into the conversation around Bible + Therapy.
Because the truth is, when it comes to faith and mental health, there are questions many of us have wrestled with but few of us have been taught how to navigate.
Is this a spiritual battle...or is it a mental health concern? Or could it be both?
In this episode of The Jasmine Love Podcast, I share a very real moment about the emotional roller coaster I found myself riding after the conference ended. The story of Elijah reminded me that even after experiencing one of the greatest miracles recorded in Scripture, one of God's greatest prophets found himself overwhelmed, discouraged, and emotionally depleted.
That was my confirmation that faith fatigue and spiritual exhaustion are real.
But as believers, we must also be discerning about where and how we replenish our souls. Sometimes what we need is a spiritual reset. Other times, what we're experiencing may be a mental health concern that deserves professional guidance.
That's why I'm so grateful to talk with our friend Charmaine Dockett, LPC-S, Licensed Professional Counselor and owner of Rivers of Hope Counseling, for an honest conversation about the intersection of faith and therapy.
Together, we unpack:
Spiritual weariness vs. mental health challenges
What it really means to "do the work"
Can Christians go to therapy and still fully trust God?
The healthy way to establish boundaries
How God uses both biblical truth and wise counsel in our healing journey
So grab your journal, your Bible, and maybe even a tissue, sis.
