From watching the BET Awards from a prison cell to later standing on the red carpet...and eventually returning to that same prison to minister to other women, Beasy Baybie's story is a powerful reminder that God can redeem every part of our story.
There are some testimonies that can only make you say, “Nobody but God.”
Seventeen years ago, a life marked by trauma, abuse, drugs, violence, and difficult choices led award winning media personality “Beasy Baybie” to prison. While incarcerated, she remembers watching the BET Awards from her cell. Just a few years later, she would find herself standing on the BET Awards red carpet as a media personality.
But that's not even the part that stayed with me most.
Years later, Beasy returned to the very prison where she had once been incarcerated, but this time helping minister to the women inside and witnessing more than 200 of them give their lives to Christ.
There's something powerful about God allowing you to return to a place that once represented bondage and discover that it no longer has the power to hold you.
In our conversation on The Jasmine Love Podcast, Beasy speaks honestly about the trauma, relationships, self-sabotage, and choices that shaped her journey. But underneath it all is a story of a God who continued to keep her even during seasons when she wasn't choosing Him.
And maybe that's where her story becomes ours.
Our testimonies may look completely different, but many of us can look back at seasons, relationships, and decisions and recognize that God's hand was present even when our choices weren't aligned with Him.
Redemption doesn't require us to erase those chapters. Sometimes God takes the very places we would rather forget and uses them as evidence of how far His grace can reach.
